HISTORY OF THE COMMUNITY CHURCH OF WEISER
The Community Church of Weiser was founded on June 26th, 1966 when the Church of the Brethren joined forces with the Congregational Church (United Church of Christ) under the guidance of Rev. W. Earl Breon. The service of affiliation included hymns, devotionals, words of dedication and prayer. The song selection included "The Church's One Foundation", "How can I be Lonely", and a special number played by the Weiser High School band, "God of Our Fathers".
1966 Act of Dedication Surely the Lord is in this place. This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven. Giving thanks to God who has put int our hearts to work together in His Church, we dedicate ourselves anew to Christ and the Church and to all which it stands. We would have strength to assist all who are tempted; to comfort those who mourn; seek Light to help those who have lost the Way; give sympathy and fellowship to the needy; earnestly seek guidance in the training of children and youth; implore wisdom for counsel in the training for the fullness of life. Help us to know and appreciate the Bible as the Great Truth - a gift of God for salvation and spiritual enrichment of man. To the glory of God, our Father, by whose favor we have been called into this fellowship and communion; to the honor of Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, our Lord and our Savior, to the praise of the Holy Spirit, source of light and life; we who are assembled for this momentous occasion, here and now, solemnly dedicate anew our lives and our possessions to man's good and God's glory in our homes, our community and throughout the world, in the Name of the Almighty God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. |
1966 Dedication Petition Our God and Father, we thank thee for the Church, set face to face with great new tasks. We remember with love the nurture it has given to our spiritual lives, the tasks it has set for our growing strength, the steadfast power for good it has exerted. We pray that thou wilt baptize it afresh in the life-giving spirit of Jesus. Bestow upon the Church a more ready response to duty, a swifter compassion for all human need, and give it utter loyalty to the will of God. Grant to this and other Churches an abiding consciousness that they are co-workers with Thee. May younger and older persons alike find within the borders of this Fellowship a place of sanctification, praise and service. May the sanctuary of the Church truly be a holy temple - a place where souls of honest inquiry may seek, find and know the will of a Heavenly Father for their personal lives. May every classroom be a haven of truth and a place of true Christian learning. We would at this time present ourselves as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable unto Thee. These favors we beg in the name and spirit of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. |
